Big Apple

I have to admit, that even though I'm not a fan of big cities, I really really liked New York :-) There is so much to discover, parks, buildings, museums, people's daily life, that you could maybe spend half of your life there without getting bored. And despite being the biggest city in the states, it still felt somewhat peaceful with all the green around and the care people give to their hometown. Course, I was only there 5 days, but I liked it anyway and think that I shall be back one day. Last but not least, I once more enjoyed the company of a great Airbnb host, Veronica, who pointed out the best places to see for me and took me out for dinner. Thanks a bunch for giving me a super time before flying back home to Switzerland!

The Yucatan Peninsula

After Cuba, Yucatan was all about beach life and taking it easy. Most of all I liked the small Isla Holbox up north, but also enjoyed the beaches at the Riviera Maya and a few visits to Mayan ruins and the world famous cenotes.

Cuba libre

Cuba is free! Well, some parts maybe a little more than others ;-) Overall it definitely was a very different and interesting experience to be in Cuba. You can see the effects of 60 years with Fidel Castro and his interpretation of Communism, then there is so much change going on nowadays, and also at times it felt like the country is being overrun by tourists from all over the world. You'll find so many contradictions along the way, rich & poor, modern and run down, from new cars to old timers to horse-drawn carriages, exorbitant prices for bad service and then again super friendly hosts at our Airbnb, being helped or getting ripped off, drama queens in a drunken taxi, and tons of other stories. From time to time all this contrast were a bit hard to digest, but lucky us we also found a few gorgeous places like Cayo Santa Maria to wind down and relax. I'm really curious where this peculiar country will be in 5 or 10 years, please let me know should your trip lead you there.
